Marley Hill in NCB Days

The waggons were driven up the hill, here shown left of the colliery smithy

Marley Hill shed closed in 1970, along with our end of the Bowes Railway, but the railway remained open as it was cut back successively to Kibblesworth, Springwell & Monkton.   Marley Hill colliery (& its fantastic canteen) was active until 1983, with coal being removed underground to the Clockburn Drift.
