Science Museum Group Journal

The Science Museum Group publishes an online biannual journal.   The articles are lengthy, but quite interesting.   Click View more for 3 articles in the most recent Autumn 2021 journal which have some relevance to TR.   You may find other articles of personal interest.

New Photo Site on the Web

Memory Lane is a new website which gives searchable access to several other photo webs as well as photos stored within itself.   It further enables folks to freely add their own photos, with the aim of creating a resource which extends across the UK and time (rather like Geograph).

Links Checked

I've checked the connections from thelinks page on this TR blog.   This page has over 300 links to websites which I've found of interest, to do with North East England, railways, people, industry, history, etc.

For example, test your knowledge with a NE quiz on the England's North East web.

Mid 20th Century Consett

Consett Steel -1967 - Another historical gem from BFI, showing Consett as a single industry town, including the transport & processing of raw materials to finished product (26 mins)

There are many more films freely available for viewing from the British Film Institute.   (NB this website may be slow to respond initially.)   I selected a few more 20th century NE gems for the blog post of 12 November.

An Interesting NE Web Site

Co-Curate is a web site presenting information about the North East of England - a local Wikipedia if you like - although the involvement of Newcastle University, museums, schools & community groups may keep it more accurate & focused.

For example, click:
Topics / Historical Periods for NE events in a particular year
Topics / People in History for NE famous folk
Topics / Transport & Travel / Railway / Tanfield Railway for TR stuff

Another Interesting Web Site

Border Counties Bridge (JW Armstrong Trust)
Heddon on the Wall LHS web site has an excellent sequence of photos showing the extant structures on the route of the Border Counties Railway, from the bridge west of Hexham to Riccarton Junction on the Waverley route.

See http://heddonhistory.weebly.com/blog/border-counties-railway for the photos
