Heritage Open Days 2018

The annual national Heritage Open Days take place from 6-9 & 13-16 September 2018.   Tanfield Railway is taking part on 5 of the 8 days:

• Sunday      9 September 10 am - 4 pm
• Thursday 13 September 11 am - 3 pm
• Friday      14 September 11 am - 3 pm
• Saturday  15 September 10 am - 4 pm
• Sunday    16 September 10 am - 4 pm

during which we are offering free talks & tours about the railway.    On Sundays there are the usual steam trains, fares & catering; on other days there are no trains running & only light refreshments available.

Operating Days

Public passenger trains will run tomorrow, Thursday, & then Sunday.  Trains will NOT run on Saturday, contrary to previous publications, because the railway has been hired privately.

After this week, trains will run on Sundays & special event days advertised on the main TR web.

East Tanfield Platform Surface

We started block paving a section of East Tanfield station today.   This is intended to create an all weather surface in a heavily used area, and reduce dirt being brought into Tommy Armstrong's tea room.
