HCC Tickets

Viewing the tickets below is courtesy of George Nairn & Colin Fish:
The Harton Coal Company (HCC) ran a public passenger service on the South Shields, Marsden & Whitburn Colliery Railway as part of miners' trains, alongside coal trains to HCC drops on the Tyne & to NER exchange sidings .
This ticket was issued by the NCB, which continued to run the passenger service until 1953.   Stations on the system were the first to be nationalised in the Britain, on 1 January 1947.
'Shields' mentioned on tickets is Westoe Lane station in South Shields.    There are photos & details of this station at http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/w/westoe_lane/

There are previous blog posts about this railway - use the search facility to view these.   There are many more webs which feature the HCC system - use Google.   Tickets are often available on ebay.

The HCC ran ex NER & locally built industrial steam locos, and some of the first electric locos in the Britain.   It used ex main line 4 wheel carriages.   Tanfield Railway aims to show many features of the SSM&CR.
