Washington F Pit Winder

A visitor learning about the 1888-built stationary steam winding engine from a guide
The horizonal engine .....
..... drives the drum for the cage rope .....
,,,, using two double acting single expansion cylinders
Showing the two brake shoes on one side of the drum
Showing the drop links of the reverser & governor
The engine was built in 1888 by the Grange Iron Co of Durham City & when installed in 1903 at F Pit
 each cylinder was fitted with Grange Iron Co's patent valve gear, each with 4 cylinders.
