(which took its first passengers c1840 (ceased c1845) towards Gateshead, Sunderland & Shields)
The Tanfield waggonway of 1725 curved (behind the carriage in the bay) onto Causey Arch.
Stanley is on the later southbound deviation of the waggonway which served other pits
after the underground fire which closed pits beyond the arch c1750, but prior to BJR's operations.
