Hitachi Rail UK

Yesterday evening there was an SLS talk in the Mining Institute (NEIMME ) by Jim Brewin, Head of Business Development for Hitachi Rail UK.   He outlined Hitachi's plan for train construction at their Newton Aycliffe plant.
Also yesterday, Richard Branson was showing off Virgin's new Azuma (Hitachi AT300)
for the East Coast route, with Kings X to Waverley in 4 hours

Tomorrow's Trains

Clocks go forward on Sunday 27 March, so tomorrow we stick with four passenger trains leaving Andrews House at 10.30 am, noon, 1.40 & 3.10 pm for Sunniside, Causey, East Tanfield & return, headed by Cochrane.

University Theses

One of the advantages of the Internet is wider & convenient access to research material.   Like most universities, Durham publishes theses, some of which cover local industrial, social & economic history.   Try Durham's search with the title John Bowes & Partners to access Mountford's 1967 work.

For those who would like to read a book, try Tomlinson's North Eastern Railway of 1915 from the University of California.
