Geoff's Jolly

The photos below were taken by Geoff Lowe on his recent staycation:
Seen through the fence at Irchester NG Railway, Northamtonshire
Metre (& other) gauge industrial railways served the Northamptonshire ironstone mines
Would anyone care to comment on the NE connection?
A neat hand crane with the cab & tank of one of the railway's ex S&L Pecketts

Irchester Ironstone Quarries (and nnearby Storefield Ironstone Quarries) were owned by South Durham Steel & Iron Co. until 1st July 1968, the latter since 1940. Irchester's allocation of 20 standard gauge steam locomotives over the years including 3 built by Hawthorn Leslie. 0-4-0ST No. 15 (works number 2412 of 1899) worked at both quarries, having been previously owned by Cargo Fleet Iron Co Ltd, Woodland Colliery, Co Durham until 1942. It returned noorth to Wensley Lime Co, Leyburn in 1949.
