Moving the TDE Crane

The photos below are courtesy of Ian Cowan:
Built by Thomas Smith of Rodley (Leeds) as works no.24065 in 1957, a 10 ton lift diesel electric bogie rail crane sits on the dockside at Tyne Dock Engineering of South Shields in the mid 1990s
(Looks like a rig base passing up the Tyne behind.)
The crane part loads itself up the ramp onto the low loader trailer
(Note the Tyne Dock Engineering TDE logo on the shed)
Allely's tractor unit & swan neck is at the rear, to winch the crane onto the trailer
(Viewed over one of several dry docks of the former Redheads shipbuilding & repair yard)
Loaded, with the tractor unit at the front
There's a tight turn & a ramp to exit the yard
(Anyone know what the masts are across the river?)
Rear wheel steering assists
Exit onto Commercial Road (the traffic queue is on the hump over the tunnel passing onto Harton high staiths)
On Newcastle Road, having passed the John Reid Road roundabout
Entering the White Mare Pool roundabout, with the A194 motorway ahead
Later, a typical day at Marley Hill - the crane having been used to load track panels
Note that this is before the carriage shed was built in the early 2000s
Search for 'crane' for many more photos of this very useful machine in use at TR (eg boiler loading).

Must be before 1994, Ian’s old Landie is in some of the shots and it’s last MOT expired in early 1994.
