West Boat Bridge, N&CR

West Boat is a hamlet on the South Tyne a mile or so west of Hexham & few hundred yards west of the confluence of the North & South Tyne.   The Newcastle & Carlisle line crosses the South Tyne on a lattice girder bridge at West Boat.
Standing under the N&C bridge, looking east along the bankside
of the S Tyne, there is an embankment straight ahead

Near Seaton Sluice

I published a post on 24 July, to which Neil Morgan replied that there had been a Newcomen engine & waggonways south west of Seaton Sluice.   I took a short walk in the area today.
Walking up stairs on the west side of Holywell Dene, I hadn't expected this scene.

This large embankment was obviously a former important waggonway - but it finished abruptly high up on the side of the dene, which isn't navigable.

New Photo Site on the Web

Memory Lane is a new website which gives searchable access to several other photo webs as well as photos stored within itself.   It further enables folks to freely add their own photos, with the aim of creating a resource which extends across the UK and time (rather like Geograph).
