St Peter's, Newcastle

Peter on Favourite at St Peter's Basin
(see NEMT for info on their boats)
Roughly the same photographic standpoint over 70 years ago.
The distant loco is probably Sisyphus (HL 2856 of 1911) scrapped 1951.
(photo from the excellent Tyne Tugs website)
'Now' image of the marina from NLS Maps - use a slider to reveal the map of 'Then',
showing the marina lying within the former site of R&W Hawthorn's marine engine works
The cycleway above the marina passes the site of St Peter's Station on the Riverside Branch

Canny article with (better than) canny cross-references, maps & illustrations! The 'mine' of local railway/industrial history available must be formidible. Swalwell station & adjacent colliery on the Derwent Valley branch, anyone?
