Darlington Talk

There was an interesting talk by Richard Barber today at NRM Shildon, about locomotive builders & suppliers in Darlington.
S&D No.25 Derwent was built by W&A Kitching, the earliest loco builders in Darlington
The S&D built North Road Works at Darlington, but was shortly taken over by the NER
Robert Stephenson Ltd moved main line loco production to Darlington, continuing as
Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns, producing many locos for export & railways in Britain.
(The RS / RSH works at Forth Banks continued to build industrial locos.)
John Fred Wake refurbished & rebuilt locos for industry

See Grace's Guide about Darlington for more information about locomotive & other industries of Darlington.

Today's talk was held under the auspices of the Friends of NRM Shildon - see the blog post RS & NER Darlington Loco Works.

Richard Barber is secretary of the Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust.
