Did you know? Tanfield Waggonway was 4' gauge; Hawks Waggonway (Gateshead) 4'3"; Wylam Waggonway used 5' gauge; Willington Waggonway 4'8", hence Killingworth Waggonway 4'8" & from there the Stephensons' influence spread to Hetton, the S&DR, the L&MR, across Britain & the world.

Checking the Crane

The photos below are courtesy of Angela Pickering:
The crane jib is lowered to Marley Hill platform .....
..... for closer inspection of the jib, ropes, pulleys & sheaves .....
..... including taking a photographic record by the engineer from Techservices
Our crane (Smith 24065/1956) passed inspection
For builder's historical information, see Thomas Smith in Grace's Guide.   Smith became part of Clarke Chapman, which has seen further takeovers & relocations, but the business exists today.
