Investigation of Locomotion No.1

Locomotion No.1 (with the Hetton loco behind) at NRM Shildon
Locomotion No.1 is a standard gauge Stephenson loco, built in 1825 for the Stockton & Darlihgton Railway, which became the first loco to haul passengers on a public railway - 4 years before the more modern Rocket ran on the Liverpool & Manchester.   The boiler of No.1 exploded in 1828, so is not original.   No.1 was the first loco to be preserved in 1858.   NRM Shildon has commissioned a survey of the loco to determine its provenance & authenticity (as the museum recently did for the Hetton loco).
