Henry Pease's father was Edward Pease, the key promoter of the S&DR. Himself a director of the S&DR, Henry established Saltburn as a seaside resort (where this statue is to be found), and drove the route over Stainmore.
The S&DR will celebrate its bicentenary in 2025, when we celebrate our tercentenary at Tanfield. The Stockton & Darlington is developing its celebration with the advantage of a large geographical spread from West Auckland to Saltburn. We need to develop our own advantages, including attracting the local catchment of 2 million inhabitants!
