As previously mentioned, 2023 is the bicentennial year of the world's first locomotive works, that of Robert Stephenson & Co in Newcastle. Including the remains of Rocket, worldwide there are fewer than 50 locos left of the thousands built by RS, & fewer still built at Newcastle between 1823 & 1902 (when the business transferred to Darlington).
There are only three operational Newcastle-built RS locos, the oldest (shown above) in Norway, the second oldest will be at Tanfield when Twizell is repaired. For the third, see Steam Loco Info & therein click the photos for details - plus plenty more on the web.
