Today, Saturday, Cochrane will head trains from Andrews House at 10.30 am, 11.50 am, 1.15 pm & 2.35 pm for Sunniside, Causey, East Tanfield & return.

49's boiler is under repair at Israel Newton's boiler workshop in Matlock.

The material of 49's boiler backhead was found to contain impurities.
It was decided to cut out the defective plate.

Rocket to Return

The Science Museum announced yesterday that Stephenson's Rocket is to return to Newcastle for the Great Exhibition of the North in summer 2018.   NewcastleGateshead were selected as Exhibition hosts in October 2016 from competitors across the North of England.

There are several replicas of the Rocket, but this is the historic original.   It was heavily modified after 1829, eg with larger lower-pitched cylinders, and successively improved fireboxes (now missing).
The success of Rocket at Rainhill led directly to the rapid development of loco building on Tyneside, which is a key feature of today's Tanfield Railway.
