This is one of two ex-NER V1 brakevans at Tanfield. The other is the ex-CIC breakdown van, which had its birdcage removed many years ago.
We have a query from a V1 researcher about this vehicle's NER history. NERA's 1999 North Eastern Record vol.2 p156 lists a V1 van at Tanfield with the NER number 28622. Is that this van? Can anyone help further?

I was surprised to see it left outside recently - is this historic vehicle due to be sent for restoration, or was it a short term re-arrangement of stock that necessitated it being left in the open?
Hi Richard
There is limited track space, even less undercover, moreso due to clearing the main engine shed for repairs. The brakevan should be back under cover once MHES is completed.
Since taking over MHES with space for about 8, we've built 5 sheds with undercover accommodation for approx 35 x 30' railway vehicles - but there was no stock on site when we started!
We've had plans for another storage shed for several years, but this has never made it to the top of the list of priorities.
Derek
