15" Gauge

I recently visited the RH&DR, which at 13 miles is the longest "minimum gauge" railway in the UK.   15" gauge lines often carry tourists, examples being at Cleethorpes, Heatherslaw, Kirklees, Ravenglass, Romney & Saltburn.   I've found the staff on such lines to be welcoming, friendly, interested & helpful.

John Wilson Carmichael

There are many well known artists associated with NE England, one of whom was John Wilson Carmichael, a landscape & maritime painter.   I first published a Carmichael painting on this blog a year ago, showing what eventually became the terminus of the Tanfield Branch.   Carmichael produced several railway scenes in NE England in the mid 19th century.
