Marley Hill in NCB Days

The photographs below are courtesy of Vic Gascoigne:
Approaching Burdon Plain bridge from Birkheads on an Austerity loco
(probably No.28 (VF 5298 of 1945) or No.83 (HE 3688 of 1949))
No.22 (HL 3103 of 1915) inside Marley Hill shed
No.23 (HL 2719 of 1907) inside Marley Hill shed, near the forge
The photographs above are courtesy of Vic Gascoigne

Nos.22 & 23 have "North Durham Area" on the tank, so I think all photos were taken between 1967 & 1970.   Marley Hill shed was in the hands of the NCB between 1947 & 1970 - note how tidy it looks.

If you have any Marley Hill photos or more information, please let me know (email address below left).

Well done, Vic. Those pictures bring back the memories. Marley Hill shed always produced clean locomotives. (The 'N10's at Bowes Bridge were not usually as presentable - being Gateshead engines - unless they had recently visited the works). 'No. 83' at Marley Hill always looked 'ex-works' !
