There will be a celebratory railway event at Stockton, Darlington or Shildon each year until the bicentenary of the S&DR in 2025, when at Tanfield we will celebrate our tercentenary.

Stockton has railway items at Preston Park (on the alignment of the S&DR), but publicly celebrates the S&DR via the Stockton Flyer, which represents Locomotion No.1:
The Flyer is a visually & aurally impressive mechanical art installation which normally emerges above its plinth once a day at 1 pm. There are several videos of the Flyer onTube.
