S&DR 192nd Anniversary

The market held today in Stockton High Street was extended to include a marquee holding railway oriented stalls to celebrate the 192nd anniversary of the first steam loco hauled public railway in the world.

The Stockton & Darlington Railway's Locomotion No.1 hauled passengers from Darlington to Stockton for the first time on 27 September 1825.
There will be a celebratory railway event at Stockton, Darlington or Shildon each year until the bicentenary of the S&DR in 2025, when at Tanfield we will celebrate our tercentenary.

Behind the marquee, the Stockton Flyer appeared every hour

The Flyer is a visually & aurally impressive mechanical art installation which normally emerges above its plinth once a day at 1 pm.   There are several videos of the Flyer onTube.
